Ras Al Khaimah – the UAE’s northernmost emirate – has added another resort to its growing collection: Anantara Mina Al Arab. Set among the lush green mangroves on a secluded peninsula that overlooks a tranquil lagoon, it’s hard to believe the hotel is just 45 minutes from Dubai.
Of the 174 accommodations, the Maldivian-inspired over-water villas are the most enticing; expect sprawling sundecks, private pools and breathtaking views of the Arabian Gulf. Best of all, every over-water villa comes with a dedicated Villa Host, so you won’t need to lift a finger during your stay.
If you really to push the boat out, consider booking the 3,900-sq-ft Two Bedroom Royal Over Water Pool Villa, which features a separate study and maid’s rooms and includes a dreamy hour-long massage for each guest. As you would expect, the interiors are breezy and laid-back. Indoor and outdoor spaces are effortlessly blended; sliding glass doors open out onto the sunny terrace.

It would be easy never to step foot outside your villa but when you can bring yourself to leave, there is plenty to explore. Anantara Mina Al Arab is home to an array of eateries including Mekong – the resort’s signature restaurant which showcases delicious dishes from Thailand, Vietnam and China (we love the sound of the decadent wagyu-filled dumplings).
For something a bit more casual, book a table at Beach Club (serving delicious Mediterranean fare) or Sea Breeze, an all-day eatery where you can enjoy a quick bite to eat (think sandwiches, salads and burgers). There’s also a poolside bar with a nice selection of cocktails and a café complete with a gourmet deli. And, for special occasions or romantic meals, the resort’s Dining by Design service gives you the chance to enjoy a gourmet meal cooked by a private chef on the beach or even onboard a private yacht.
As you would expect from an Anantara property, the resort is home to an expansive spa. Located in an idyllic garden, an array of wellness treatments is available here including the Ras Al Khaimah Ritual – an enriching body scrub made from dates, salt and honey from mangrove hives.
The resort also offers an impressive collection of experiences to keep the entire family entertained from visits to an Emirati pearl farm to hot air balloon rides over the desert and the chance to brave the world’s longest zipline.
