Habitas unveiled its first property in Morocco late last year, nestled in the Agafay desert near Marrakech. Now, the eco-luxe brand has launched a second retreat – Caravan Dakhla – set on the idyllic shores of the Dakhla lagoon on the edge of the Western Sahara Desert.
The retreat features a collection of 24 Moroccan guest rooms divided into Riad-style bedrooms, modern villas and lodges. For sweeping views of the crystal blue waters, it’s worth booking the Lagoon Loft. Decorated in an earthy color palette inspired by the sandy desert dunes, the loft boasts floor-to-ceiling windows, a sprawling patio deck and a private outdoor shower.
Habitas Caravan Dakhla will also be home to a collection of Desert Riad accommodations adorned with Tadelakt walls, soft woven rugs and traditional Moroccan furnishings. When guests can bring themselves to step foot outside of their cozy rooms, there are plenty of spaces to relax and unwind from the swimming pool and barrel sauna to the outdoor cinema.

As for dining, at the laid-back Levante restaurant there’s an array of Moroccan and Latin American culinary delights to enjoy with a focus on fresh seafood sourced from the surrounding region. There are also plenty of experiences to keep guests entertained including Sahrawi tea ceremonies, live music evenings and bike excursions with an expert guide.
And, for those with an adventurous side, it’s well worth heading to the lagoon for an afternoon of water sports. Dakhla is renowned as one of the planet’s best kitesurfing destinations and is a popular spot for kiteboarders and windsurfers.
Habitas has joined forces with international kitesurf brand Naish to launch a kite school with several experienced instructors and pro kite surfers. After a long day out on the water, retire to the Surf Wellness Clinic for a range of high-performance treatments from deep tissue massages to IV drips.
“Caravan Dakhla is the second launch for Habitas in Morocco, and follows swiftly on from the opening of Caravan Agafay,” said Oliver Ripley, co-founder and CEO of Habitas. “We’re planning to launch additional Homes in Morocco in equally diverse settings, more to follow on this.”
