A vibrant coastal metropolis, Miami is in a class all of its own. Constantly morphing and growing, there is always something going on in the Magic City — from the dreamy beaches to superb dining, high-end boutiques to a fascinating art scene — and not forgetting the famed nightlife. Miami is undoubtedly glam but it is also seriously fun and no two visits are ever quite the same, so what to wear, where to stay and what to eat? This quick Miami guide takes a look at the hot list for 2024.
Where to stay in Miami
If there was a singular suite that fully encapsulates Miami’s one-of-a-kind vibe, this is surely it. The Penthouse Suite at Faena Hotel Miami Beach doesn’t shy away from bold interior choices; it is joyously, fabulously OTT — designed by Frank Pollaro, think tons of animal print, tons of gold, tons of fun. Spread across two floors, the 14,507-sq-ft suite has five bedrooms (each one with its own furnished balcony with gorgeous turquoise ocean views) and spacious living and dining areas. Where to eat in Miami
When Lebanase-Canadian entrepreneur Charles Khabouth opened Byblos on Miami Beach in 2015, it became an instant hit among locals and tourists alike. Inside, the decor is distinctive — cobalt blue sofas, huge Egyptian murals, octopus sculptures and dangling chandeliers. The cuisine is traditional Mediterranean meze-style dishes injected with a dose of Miami, like the Middle Eastern fried chicken with tahini, za’atar and hot sauce. While there is no strict dress code for Byblos, this is Miami so dress to impress.

Miami’s best beaches
No matter the time of year, Miami’s golden beaches and endless sunshine beckon. The most famous is South Beach (or SoBe, as locals say) on the southern tip of Miami Beach. Stretching for miles, it’s known for its beautiful scenery and equally beautiful people, Art Deco architecture, trendy bars, restaurants and hotels.
For a quieter pace, head to Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park on Key Biscayne. It’s one of the city’s more secluded beaches and has peaceful, uncrowded shores overlooked by a soaring lighthouse.
Wherever you choose to soak up the sun, keeping your skin hydrated and protected is a must. Clinique’s new Moisture Surge SPF25 Sheer Hydrator has an opaque finish so you can see exactly where it is being applied (it’s worth noting that as the SPF is 25, you’ll need to reapply frequently if spending prolonged periods in the sun).
It has a light, weightless feel and just like the sister product, the surge moisturizer (a personal favorite), it keeps skin looking juicy and fresh.
Miami’s art scene
Miami is an exciting hub for contemporary art and attracts artists and collectors from near and far. In downtown, the Pérez Art Museum Miami (PAMM) hosts ever-changing exhibitions that explore a rich variety of themes and mediums and showcases work from around the globe.
The Wynwood Arts District was once a severely neglected industrial neighborhood that has now been transformed into a dynamic artistic enclave with colorful street art, galleries and creative spaces. The Wynwood Walls display the work of renowned street artists — a unique outdoor project, walking through Wynwood is like walking through an open-air gallery of vivid and frequently changing murals painted right onto the walls of various buildings in the neighborhood.
And perhaps the most notable art event is Art Basel Miami Beach which happens every December. The fair celebrates both established and emerging artists and showcases an incredible array of artwork. Come for the art but stay for the parties — Art Basel after parties are legendary, and the dress code is uber-glam and uber-cool. Opt for a Proenza Schouler cutout sequined knitted maxi dress paired with bright and ever-so-fun crystal embellished mules by Amina Muaddi.
