Aston Martin Db4 Gt Joins Stellar Quail Lodge Auction Roster

By Pardhasaradhi Gonuguntla

San Francisco – Hot on the heels of Bonhams’ world record at their recent Aston Martin factory auction, Bonhams & Butterfields announces another major consignment to their upcoming auction during the Monterey Peninsula Car Week with an immaculate 1961 Aston Martin DB4 GT.

Coming to the market after more than 20 years of private ownership, the DB4 GT/0156/R is an original US market car delivered through agents J.S. Inskip to a Massachusetts doctor. The car enjoyed a light racing career through the 1960s both in the US and the UK. It came into the hands of the present owner in the 1980s who embarked upon a comprehensive restoration that would take nearly a decade to complete.

When the car debuted from restoration it swept the board at concours events, taking prizes at Lime Rock, the Aston Martin Owner’s Club, and the Greenwich Concours. Since then, no more than a thousand miles have been put on the odometer. It retains matching numbers and has recently undergone service to put it in fast road-ready condition. In a stunning dark blue livery with burgundy leather trim this has to be one of the finest examples of the model in the world.

Aston’s legendary DB4 GT model was their short chassis, lightweight aluminum racer. Its svelte Superleggera bodywork by Touring is arguably one of the most beautiful designs of all time and harnessed 300 bhp, with 150 mph-plus performance. The prototype GT won its first race at Silverstone in 1959 piloted by Stirling Moss and numerous other wins would follow. A limited production run was announced in September that year, which would extend to just 75 standard DB4 GTs, of which only 45 were with right hand drive.

This coveted sports car is the latest to join Bonhams & Butterfields astounding multi-million dollar sale to be held August 15th at the Quail Lodge in Carmel, California. With just one month to go before entries close, this promises to be the biggest Quail auction ever.
