It should come as no surprise that burlesque queen Dita Von Teese is drawn to hotels that ooze old Hollywood glamour since the international entertainer does the same. That makes her a perfect match for The Beverly Hills Hotel, which she calls one of her favorite places to go.
“I live in LA but The Beverly Hills Hotel is one of those places you want to go and have a weekend stay,” said Von Teese, who recently hosted a Cointreau Poolside Soiree at the historic pink hotel to celebrate The Beverly Hills Hotel’s 100th anniversary. “It’s elegant and glamorous. I always get excited when I pull up and there’s that Beverly Hills Hotel sign that has been there forever.”
The fashion icon either hangs at the famous Polo Lounge or indulges in soda fountain-style at The Fountain Coffee Room, memorable for its walls. “If they ever take down the banana leaf wallpaper, I’m never going back,” she said with a laugh.
She’s also fond of the 125-year-old Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island, Michigan, where cars are banned and horse-drawn carriages are the preferred mode of transportation. “It’s like stepping back in time,” she said. “It’s got a different kind of glamour factor than the places I usually go. It’s like a quaint glamour.” And the Michigan native added, “It’s a place I used to go during the lilac season with my family.”
Despite her partiality to old school, there are times when modern amenities blow her away, like the full bathroom on the Emirates A380. “It’s as big as a normal bathroom!” Von Teese exclaimed. “I like that on the shower it said maximum three persons.”
