Meadows of Dan, Virginia – Reported by Elite Traveler, the private jet lifestyle magazine
Known for seamlessly blending down-home rustic appeal with Euro-influenced modern luxury, the Primland Resort, located on 12,000 acres of private ridgeline in the Blue Ridge Mountains along the Virginia/North Carolina border, offers up a new accommodation that takes that expertise in a decidedly whimsical direction.
Discreetly tucked away just off the fourth green of the resort’s fabled Donald Steel-designed Highland golf course, the Golden Eagle Tree House ($535 a night) is a real one-of-a-kind hotel suite. The aromatic red cedar “tree house” was prefabricated in France by design firm La Cabana Perchée and relocated cliffside, on the strongest branches of one of the resort’s oldest oak trees. Perched far, far above the scenic Dan River Gorge, the large outdoor deck is a perfect private aerie from which to view the mountain scenery, including on-the-hunt red tail hawks circling below.
The suite features all the amenities, down to the Frette robes and cutting-edge flat-panel TVs, of the rest of the resort’s lodge accommodations, and guests are issued a golf cart if they feel like checking out Primland’s excellent Elements restaurant or restful, Native American-influenced spa; taking in the stars from the resort’s observatory; or trying their luck at any of the adventurous activities on offer, from sporting clays to ATV tours to full-scale hunting and fishing expeditions.
