John Wayne Suite, The St. Anthony, a Luxury Collection Hotel

Designated a national historic site, The St. Anthony, a Luxury Collection Hotel has the feel of a stately European palace.

Opening its doors overlooking Travis Park in 1909, the hotel’s lobby boasts crystal chandeliers and Corinthian columns whilst French Empire antique furniture, sculptures, paintings and tapestries can be found throughout this swanky San Antonio grande dame.

You may forget for a moment that you are in Texas, but nothing compares to that signature Southern hospitality. And the St. Anthony’s polished service delivers this to a tee.

The heritage hotel has four upscale restaurants and bars, including Rebelle, a glamorous seafood restaurant overseen by talented local chef Stefan Bowers.

For drinks, the St. Anthony Club, a former private members club, hosts live jazz performances and specializes in Texas-inspired signature cocktails. Order the ‘Triple S’, which combines a heady mix of tequila, lime, watermelon, jalapenos and agave.

Up above, the rooftop cabana bar is the ideal summer spot, serving an elevated grill-style fare and margaritas beside a dazzling rooftop pool with views across downtown.

The St. Anthony’s suites are vintage-inspired with all the modern comforts you’d expect from a Luxury Collection Hotel.

The hotel’s John Wayne Suite pays homage to one of America’s favorite sons, who stayed at the hotel in 1960 while filming The Alamo. Above the living room’s ornate marble fireplace hangs a modern portrait of the ‘Duke’ himself.

There is plenty of plush seating and as well as a six-person dining table, the open plan living room features a sophisticated marble bar stocked with crystal decanters, a cocktail shaker and a selection of fine glassware.

The suite’s luxurious bedroom leads to an ensuite with a black marble double vanity unit, freestanding tub and a notably large walk-in shower.
