Sabi Sabi in South Africa’s Sabi Sands Game Reserve encompasses four distinct lodges and camps—Selati Camp, Bush Lodge, Little Bush Camp and Earth Lodge—providing a luxurious base to suit every taste while reflecting the ‘yesterday, today and tomorrow’ of safari through each one’s design. While Earth Lodge acts as a stylish sanctuary showcasing contemporary eco-design, Bush Lodge fits the image of a classic safari camp, catering particularly well to families. Now, Sabi Sabi has revealed the new look of its most romantic lodge, the award-winning Selati Camp.
Through a complete refurbishment, the camp’s seven suites have been redesigned to reflect the vintage safari style and elegance that this camp is defined by based on the inspiration it takes from the Selati line steam train that once passed through the land carrying gold to and from Mozambique. Today this heritage is seen through the integration of authentic railway memorabilia, billowing linens and classic decor, with the addition of ultra-luxurious finishes and amenities curated by Derrick Tabbert Interiors and Design Republic.
Throughout each suite muted earthy tones are complemented by black and antique brass detailing, with a skilfully crafted Kiaat timber and metal server dividing the bedroom and living area. A custom-made sofa with steel frame and leather belt detail has been added to the space, along with original antique furnishings, photographs and memorabilia that have been collected from across the country. In the bathroom, accents of steel, marble and mirror frame the birdcage shower structure, with floor-to-ceiling glass doors opening up to a private outdoor space complete with deep stone bath and open-air shower.
Outside the suites, guests can then enjoy the camp’s convivial dining area, lantern-lit outdoor boma and swimming pool with views over the surrounding bushveld, in between each day’s exploration of the wildlife-rich game reserve.
Rates start at $871 per night, inclusive of game drives, walking safaris and meals. A stay at Selati Camp can be combined with a stay at any one of the other three luxury lodges within Sabi Sabi Private Game Reserve.
