The Savoy Offers New James Bond cocktail

By Pardhasaradhi Gonuguntla

London, England – Reported by Elite Traveler, the private jet lifestyle magazine

The American Bar at The Savoy, a Fairmont Managed Hotel, is celebrating the publication of the latest James Bond novel, Carte Blanche, by offering a special Carte Blanche cocktail. Written by American author, Jeffery Deaver, the book sees Bond drinking a new cocktail, which the American Bar will be the first bar in the world to serve.

The Carte Blanche is a blend of Crown Royal whisky, triple sec and angostura bitters with a twist of orange peel. But one thing remains the same – the cocktail is shaken not stirred. Head Bartender Erik Lorincz, who is widely considered to be one of the finest bartenders in the world, has followed the recipe outlined in the book and given it a special smoky twist inspired by the book’s cover.

The Carte Blanche follows a tradition started by Fleming in his first Bond novel, Casino Royale, when he created the Vesper, named after one of his characters, Vesper Lynd. The Vesper, a combination of gin, vodka and Kina Lillet, will also be added to the cocktail list of the American Bar, allowing guests to enjoy a classic and a new ‘Bond cocktail’.

The Savoy has a long association with James Bond and his creator, Ian Fleming. He was one of many authors who regularly visited The Savoy and the American Bar was one of Fleming’s favourite haunts. He even mentioned the hotel in several of his books including Dr. No, For Your Eyes Only and Diamonds Are Forever. Fairmont has further connections to Fleming through the Fairmont Hamilton Princess in Bermuda, where he was said to have used the hotel’s fish tank-lined Gazebo Bar as a motif in Dr. No.
