Museum Hopping

Paris offers far more than just Le Louvre so spend the day exploring other museums.

By Alex Martin

Paris may be home to the most visited and most famous museum of all, Le Louvre, but there are many more collections worthy of your time. While Le Louvre is of course a must-visit (particularly at night), you can avoid the worst of the tourist trail by visiting other locations like Foundation Louis Vuitton, which is brimming with contemporary artwork in a building as beautiful as any individual piece within it. The Musée Picasso is also a wondrous adventure into the psyche of one of modern art’s most prolific painters. The museum is located in the Hôtel Salé, a worthy destination in itself, and reopened in 2014 after an extensive refurbishment. Finish the day with a stroll around Paris’s second-most visited museum, Musée d’Orsay. Here, you will find one of the world’s most complete collections of impressionist art from major artists such as Renoir, Manet and Monet. Even the most casual of art lovers will chance upon a number of highly recognizable pieces.
