By Olivia Cuccaro

The Loren Sailor’s Delight

  • 1 oz Black Seal Rum
  • 1 oz Goslings Gold Seal Rum
  • 1 oz Facundo Neo Silver Rum
  • 1 oz pineapple juice
  • 1 oz orange juice
  • 1/2 oz apricot liqueur
  • splash of grenadine

To create this cocktail of the week, combine ingredients including Black Seal Rum, Goslings Gold Seal Rum and Facundo Neo Silver Rum in a cocktail shaker with ice. Serve in a mason jar and garnish with an orange wheel, cherry and pineapple greens.

In 1806, merchant James Gosling set sail from the UK in hopes of reaching the USA, but a lack of wind on the water forced him to land in Bermuda. On this new island, James and his brother Ambrose began blending a black rum first sold from the barrel until transitioning to reclaimed champagne bottles with a distinctive black wax seal. More than 200 years later, the recently unveiled Loren hotel is upholding one of Bermuda’s oldest traditions, Goslings Black Seal Rumto give guests of the new property a taste of history with the Sailor’s Delight rum cocktail.

twist on the traditional rum swizzle, the Sailor’s Delight cocktail is also a nod to the 35th America’s Cup yachting competition taking place in Bermuda through June 27, 2017.

“The Loren team is thrilled that Bermuda is hosting the 35th America’s Cup,” said Dirk Beck, Director of Food and Beverage at The Loren, in speaking to Elite Traveler. “To celebrate the festivities along with Bermuda’s culture and heritage, we’ve created a Sailor’s Delight cocktail that features Gosling’s Rum, a longtime Bermuda staple.”

Opened in late April 2017, The Loren stands on Pink Beach as the first new build in Bermuda in 45 years. The sleek oceanfront hotel features just 45 suites and villas, all overlooking the sparkling Atlantic from private balconies and terraces – perfect for watching the superyacht race with cocktail in hand. Be one of the first to stay in the luxurious Villa Residences, comprising seven standalone villas each spanning 3,555 sq ft. The Villa Residences feature two levels to encompass three bedrooms with en suite bathrooms, a chef’s kitchen, living room, dining room, private plunge pool, furnished pool deck and grill area. Should you venture outside the villa, enjoy a signature aloe vera and hibiscus body treatment at the Spa before dinner at Marée, the hotel’s fine dining restaurant.
