Winners of European Hospitality Awards 2017 Revealed

As the European Hospitality Awards unfolded last week in London, this year’s stand-out hotels and leaders in hospitality were given their moment in the spotlight. Now in its 9th year, the annual gala dinner is held to recognize the best and brightest in the contemporary hospitality industry with one-of-a-kind trophies crafted by Italian design firm Alessi.

Taking place on November 9th at London’s Tower Hotel, this year’s event saw more than 130 leading figures in the international hotel industry gather for the occasion. Winner were selected across 15 categories by a judging panel that included Mark Bruce of EPR Architects, Florent Duperrin from Gensler, Phin Foster of HMI Magazine and Richard Harris from Capital Work Services, along with Andrew Linwood of Areen Design, Rolf Schmidt from Top Hotel Projects, Barry Thomas from Rosewood London and Steve Waldron from Grange Hotels.

Park Hyatt Mallorca shone in particular, winning the award for Opening of the Year – New Build, as well as being named Overall Winner. Meliá Hotels International also made an impression, winning awards for its properties over three categories; Gran Meliá Palacio de los Duques was recognized as Opening of the Year – Renovation or Conversion, the award for Best Use of Technology went to Sol House Social Hub by Meliá and the award for Innovation in Service went to Sol House Ibiza.

The Elite Traveler sponsored award for International Best Beach Resort went to Wow Architects for the St Regis Maldives Vommuli Resort, and the award for Best Boutique Hotel, which is sponsored by Spear’s, went to The Lalit London. The Romanos, a Luxury Collection Resort, Costa Navarino was recognized Green Hotel of the Year, and Italy’s Masseria San Domenico was named Hotel Spa of the Year. The Best Hotel Suite award went to the Marylebone Suite at the Marylebone London.

When it came down to the hotel industry’s food and drink offering, the Kitchen Club at Casa Cook in Rhodes stood out as Best Hotel Restaurant, while 363 Champagne Lounge at Grace Santorini was named Best Hotel Bar.

Looking ahead, the award for Best Future Hospitality Building – Under Construction and Drawing Board was given to Royal Hideaway Corales Resort in Tenerife, Spain.

Finally, the Hotelier of the Year award went to Niko Suyasa for his admirable work at Step Ubud Training Hotel in Bali, Indonesia, and the Lifetime Achievement went to Gerald Lawless who flew in from Dubai for the occasion; the accomplished hotelier who stepped down as the CEO and president of Jumeirah Group last year is now chairman of the World Travel and Tourism Council.
