What September is to the fashion industry, October is quickly becoming to the art world. Without taking a break from Frieze London, we’re hopping over the Channel for Art Basel Paris, which is running through October 20.
With many considering it the birthplace of modern art, hosting the likes of Picasso, Matisse and Monet (we could go on), it’s not surprising that Art Basel has been drawn to Paris’ artist magnetism, as the leading contemporary art fair has chosen the City of Light to join its flagship shows in Switzerland, Hong Kong and Miami Beach.
Now in its third edition, for 2024, Art Basel Paris arrives with a new name and a new location, too; bringing together galleries from 42 countries – including 41 new exhibitors for 2024 – to the newly renovated Grand Palais for the weekend. In addition to the total of 95 galleries showing under the Grand Palais’ iconic glass ceiling, an extensive public program is also taking place, with countless exhibitions and displays sprawling across the city.

And if the first few days of sales are anything to go by – with a $9.5m Julie Mehretu painting, titled Insile, leading the way for gallery White Cube – this weekend is set to be stellar for buyers, sellers and art enthusiasts alike.
With so many incredible pieces to see, notable highlights not to be missed include Paulina Olowska’s curation of Mystic Sugar, an exploration of mysticism and femininity taking over the Pace Gallery booth; Darrel Ellis’s radical portraiture from the 1980s shown at Hannah Hoffman; and Rashid Johnson’s powerful political and cultural commentary is displayed at Hauser & Wirth.
Beyond the walls of the Grand Palais, key installations like Carsten Höller’s Double Trip Mushroom at Place Vendôme are must-sees, meanwhile, two brand-new immersive installations by light artist James Turrell are on display at Gagosian’s Le Bourget location.
But it’s not just artists getting creative for this weekend. As the official partner of Art Basel Paris Public Program, Miu Miu is bringing its signature style and playful femininity beyond the catwalk, infusing the streets of Paris with its unmistakable flair.

Titled Tales & Tellers, the brand’s exhibition combines Miu Miu’s fashion with its decade-old short film anthology series ‘Women’s Tales’ for some provoking performance art, installations, panels and workshops.
Under the direction of artist Goshka Macuga and curator Elvira Dyangani Ose, Tales & Tellers transforms Paris’ Palais d’Iéna into a lively stage. The exhibition shows a series of vignettes from the brand’s short films alongside live performers dancing, contorting, making sculptures, and doing standup comedy, all while models show off the brand’s Spring/Summer 2025 collection.
In addition to the free exhibition, Miu Miu also hosted a program of panel conversations between leading female contemporary artists and creatives, hosting conversations between the likes of acclaimed film director Ava DuVernay, actress and fashion IT girl Chloë Sevigny, trailblazing Saudi filmmaker, Haifaa Al-Mansour, and Oscar-winning costume designer Catherine Martin, among many others.
