Spa of the Week: Fairmont Willow Stream Spa

By Olivia Cuccaro

By Olivia Cuccaro

Escape to the heart of the Mexican jungle for this week’s tropical spa experience. Among the natural lagoons and canopy of trees once home to the ancient Mayans, Willow Stream Spa at Fairmont Mayakoba overlooks the surrounding mangrove forest and rejuvenates with treatments inspired by organic elements of Mexico.

With a name chosen for the strength of a willow tree and the energetic current of a stream, Willow Stream Spa offers revitalizing treatments in its expansive 37,000 sq ft facility. Adorned with colors and textures that reflect Mexico’s vibrant history, the spa comprises 20 treatment rooms including a couple’s suite, men’s and women’s locker rooms with whirlpools and outdoor Swiss showers, full-service fitness center and beauty salon. A rooftop vitality pool and mineral soaking pool provide the perfect place for a relaxing dip post-treatment.

Spa services include products from Kerstin Florian as well as the signature Willow Stream Reviving line for luxurious body treatments, massages, facials, sports-inspired experiences and treatments for two.

For something unique to Mayakoba, book the signature 90-minute Mayan clay purification treatment where Mayan clay is applied, then exfoliated off the body using a cactus-fiber ayate cloth before a massage with sage oil and obsidian stones. To combat the damaging effects of vacation sun, try the 60-minute chamomile body polish treatment that soothes and renews — ideal for refining sensitive skin. If you happen to find yourself at Fairmont Mayakoba for a romantic getaway, the Yucatan healing treatment for two encompasses two hours in a private spa suite with its own balcony, bath and shower. Guests receive their own traditional sarongs to wear and are treated to a footbath, body scrub, body mask, soaking tub bath and side-by-side massages.

In your state of spa bliss, be sure you’re reserved to relax back in the sumptuous Presidential Suite El Camaleon. From the 2,205 sq ft two-bedroom suite, descend a private stairway and find yourself at the ocean’s edge on a white sand beach. Boasting high ceilings, the suite also includes a master bedroom and family bedroom, separate living and dining rooms, marble bathroom with soaking tub and glass shower, second guest bathroom, office area, meal prep area and full-size refrigerator. Take in stunning views of the Caribbean Sea from an expansive terrace or work on your tan by the suite’s private infinity pool. Either way, you’ll be fully taken care of with exclusive butler service.

Fairmont Mayakoba is located at Carretera Federal Cancún, Playa del Carmen Km. 298, Riviera Maya, Quintana Roo, Mexico 77710. For more information, please visit fairmont.com.
