Washington DC’s annual Cherry Blossom Festival usually attracts visitors from across the country to celebrate the history of Japanese culture and witness the pink blooms that blanket the city. However, for those who can’t see the blossoms in person, the luxurious Rosewood Washington DC has revealed the recipe for its Rolling Fog cocktail, allowing people to embrace the start of the spring season at home.
First held in the 1930s to commemorate the then-mayor of Tokyo Yukio Ozaki gifting Washington DC with a number of Japanese cherry trees, the celebration includes events throughout the city that range from culinary trails and sake tastings to art showcases and city-wide parades.
Although in usual years, millions of visitors descend on the city during the festival to witness the cherry blossoms in their full glory, as with countless events around the world, 2021’s celebrations have mostly been moved to the virtual sphere where workshops, classes and events can be enjoyed online. Those not able to visit in the person can also witness the blossoms as they bloom via the Bloom Cam.

Inspired by the delicate cherry blossoms, the Rolling Fog cocktail combines the fruity notes of Suntory Toki Japanese Whisky with the gentle bitterness of Aperol, resulting in a fresh tipple perfect for seeing in spring. The cocktail is being served at Rosewood Washington DC’s culinary outlets throughout the cherry blossom season, all of which champion local ingredients. To ensure that the five-star luxury hotel showcases the best of the local area, executive chef Andrew Skala has solidified working relationships with local farmers, ranchers, dairy farmers and fishermen to source seasonal products for his menus.
