British chef Gordon Ramsay has done what few in his industry have managed: to create a high-profile ‘celebrity chef’ identity and maintain a reputation as one of the world’s best culinary talents, with a smattering of Michelin stars.
But how many Michelin stars does Gordon Ramsay actually have? Spanning his portfolio, Ramsay has a total of nine Michelin stars across nearly 90 restaurants, with six in London and a further two in France.

Restaurant Gordon Ramsay, on Chelsea’s upmarket but village-like Royal Hospital Road, remains the chef’s flagship. First opened in 1998, the restaurant achieved three Michelin stars in 2001 and has held them ever since – making it London’s longest-standing three-Michelin-star restaurant. The restaurant’s tasting menus reflect Ramsay’s classic training and nod toward refined French cuisine – its fresh, delicate style feels removed from the hot-heated man that dominated early noughties cooking shows. Since mid-2025, management of the kitchen has fallen on Kim Ratcharoen.
In early 2025, Ramsay and team attempted to replicate the success of his jewel, with the opening of Restaurant Gordon Ramsay High up on the 60th floor of 22 Bishopsgate, alongside another outpost of the Asian-inspired Lucky Cat. Intimate with just 12 seats, the restaurant is billed as a transplant of the flagship, bringing ‘Restaurant Gordon Ramsay to the sky.’

Critics were dubious: can you really just transport nearly 30 years of hard work to the other side of a city? Ramsay’s own concerns are now immortalized in his new Netflix documentary Being Gordon Ramsay. But his efforts were, ultimately, rewarded in the form of another Michelin star in the 2026 guide. (Elsewhere in the Gordon Ramsay metaverse, at the same award ceremony his protege executive chef Matt Abe received two stars for his newly opened Bonheur, which occupies the old home of Le Gavroche.)
Ramsay’s second London restaurant Petrus opened in 1999 (although relocated in 2010 following a disagreement with collaborator Marcus Wareing). The first location had earned two Michelin stars by 2007; the new iteration has retained and held one star since 2011. As has become part of the Ramsay playbook, the menu leans French but uses ingredients primarily sourced around the British Isles.

Also in London is one-Michelin-starred Restaurant 1890, discreetly concealed within the walls of The Savoy Hotel. The restaurant opened in 2022, with its name paying homage to the year Georges Auguste Escoffier first joined the London hotel. It follows, then, that the food is rooted in French tradition: truffle creme brulee, halibut with beurre blanc, and a riff on Escoffier’s famous peach melba.
Although the bulk of Ramsay’s fine-dining success is clustered in the UK – and specifically London – he also has two Michelin-starred restaurants in France: Gordon Ramsay au Trianon in Versailles and Bordeaux’s Le Pressoir d’Argent – Gordon Ramsay.
But, while Ramsay’s star credentials mark him out as one of the UK’s most successful chefs ever, he still trails in the global Michelin rankings: Alain Ducasse has 18 stars across his empire; Yannick Alleno is hot on his tail with 17; Pierre Gagnaire counts 10; and Martin Berasategui has nine.
