Grand Velas Riviera Nayarit has taken tequila tasting to the next level with the launch of its multi-day ‘Fly Over Tequila’ experience, which takes guests on an immersive tour through the home of the agave spirit.
Spread across five days and priced at $38k for two, the new experience deftly blends all the luxury of the oceanfront Grand Velas resort with the traditional art of tequila making. To begin, guests can enjoy a paired tequila dinner at the hotel’s Frida restaurant, which serves up locally inspired dishes. The next day calls for a trip to the spa, where a tequila-themed hydrotherapy experience awaits.
Day three is all about discovering the versatility of tequila in a creative mixology class, culminating in the Golden Ranch Water – a suitably extravagant cocktail complete with 24K gold flakes.

After a few nights at the hotel, it’s on to a private helicopter to take in the agave fields from above en route to Tequila. Once in the spirit’s heartland, guests are treated to a gourmet lunch in an underground tequila tavern, before heading to the 200-year-old Casa Cuervo distillery for a guided tour and tasting for a behind-the-scenes look at the traditional tequila-making process.
Next, it’s time to check in to one of Matices Hotel de Barricas’s standalone barrel-themed suites, each of which was designed by a local Mexican artist to share the story of the country’s signature spirit. Once settled in their unique room, guests can partake in a number of activities, from making their own tequila bottle to horseback riding through the La Cofradia agave fields.

Come evening, the experience continues with a tour around some of the town’s most important historical sites, before a private barbacoa dinner among the agave plants, with an exclusive Mariachi band performance.

On the final day, once back at Grand Velas Riviera Nayarit guests can enjoy the resort’s copious facilities – including the three-tiered infinity pool with ocean views – while sampling some of their favorite spirits at leisure. Rounding off the immersive Fly Over Tequila package is an evening of fine dining at one of the hotel’s signature restaurants.
