The Whiteley’s reputation has never been short of regal.

With Royal Warrants from Queen Victoria and King George V, Britain’s first department store wasn’t just a place to shop; it was a destination. From rare treasures to the latest global marvels, it brought the world to London under one iconic roof.

Fast forward to today, and after a £1.5bn (approx. $2bn) transformation, Whiteley’s is stepping into a new era. Within its 139 exclusive residences, Six Senses Hotel and luxury retail and hospitality quarter, the spirit of William Whiteley’s bold ambition lives on, blending innovation, heritage and timeless design in one space.

Covering 1.1m sq ft, the restoration of the building is a masterful fusion of history and modernity. Its Grade II-listed facade has been meticulously preserved, proudly featuring the iconic clock tower — a structure that, until now, bore an empty roundel. Master artisans have, for the first time, crafted a bespoke clock face to revitalize an architectural emblem.

Behind the pinnacle of The Whiteley’s facade lies Europe’s very first Maxalto-designed apartment. An arm of the B&B Italia Group led by the acclaimed Antonio Citterio, Maxalto’s interiors celebrate the building’s heritage and neoclassical influences. A private residents’ entrance lends privacy to the designer apartment away from the bustle of The Whiteley’s commercial complex and Six Senses Hotel.

Entering into the open-plan living and dining area, views of the 952-sq-ft terrace complement the refined living space and state-of-the-art kitchen within. Arched doorways pay homage to the building’s iconic facade and filter sunlight and breezes into the living area and kitchen. The surprisingly peaceful terrace is framed by the famous clock tower, both of which open onto panoramic views of the capital’s skyline.

The 20-ft ceiling within the roundel provides a luxurious recreational space, complete with a top-stitched leather bookshelf and decorative library-inspired ladder. The five bedrooms, one set up as an airy study, enjoy plenty of natural light to complement Maxalto’s warm decor. The master suite’s bedroom and bathroom open onto the private terrace, whilst the iconic 1911 Whiteley glass dome fills the additional bedrooms with natural light from the inner terrace.

Residents of this 4,349-sq-ft designer apartment will enjoy Queensway’s extensive $4bn redevelopment. Highlights include newly installed gates to Kensington Gardens and the comprehensive refurbishment of both Bayswater and Queensway underground stations. Thoughtful enhancements extend to the streetscape as well, with widened pavements and elegant pergolas creating an elegant environment designed for effortless comfort and sophisticated leisure. This bold transformation is positioning the area as one of central London’s most vibrant and sought-after new districts.
