A Lange & Söhne Lange 1 Perpetual Calendar

The moonphase display is accurate for 122.6 years before needing a one-day correction.

By Roberta Naas

One of the finest watch manufacturers in the world, German brand A. Lange & Söhne offers beautiful timepieces with top-notch mechanical watchmaking inside and superbly clean and sophisticated dials. The new Lange 1 Perpetual Calendar is a prime example. The watch is powered by an all-new, in-house-made self-winding movement with innovative winding system and a peripheral month ring instead of the typical 48-tooth cam that the brand used in the past.

A journey around the dial reveals an off-center hour and minute subsidiary dial, a moonphase display that shows day or night, a day-of-the-week retrograde pointer that, once the last day of the week is reached, jumps back to the beginning to start again, and the outsized date. Boasting 50 hours of power reserve, the movement is the brand’s 67th manufacture caliber. The moonphase display is accurate for 122.6 years before needing a one-day correction. This 41.9mm white gold version boasts a solid 18-karat pink gold dial. Just 150 pieces will be made.
