Having been delighting London’s slickest characters since 2017, it was about time that Soho House offshoot, The Ned, brought its stylish brand of members-club-meets-hotel stateside. Introducing, The Ned NoMad, New York.
Housed in the Johnston Building, which was formerly the home of The NoMad Hotel, The Ned NoMad is aiming to deliver a new wave of elegance and classic style to the city’s hotel scene, with a level of dramatic grandeur befitting of its location.
The destination’s interiors are glam yet sophisticated, with the Soho House Design team stepping up to imagine The Ned’s design. The finished result neatly pulls influence from some of the most iconic design eras in modern history, including the Beaux-Arts-style original exterior and the Art-Deco clubs that dominated 1930s New York, culminating in a timelessly stylish aesthetic.

“Five years after launching The Ned in London, we are honored to open The Ned NoMad in the storied Johnston building,” says The Ned managing director, Gareth Banner. “A lot of our London Ned members work and visit New York and for a long time have asked us about an outpost stateside, and at a time when private membership clubs are flourishing, we are thrilled to offer our existing and new members and guests a space where they can thrive both socially and professionally, in a gorgeous setting.”
Naturally, while this is a hotel (and non-members can book rooms), it is a member’s club at heart and the only real way to experience The Ned is with a full membership. Like its London sibling, the club is intended to offer a one-stop destination for relaxing, socializing and even working. The members-only spaces are vast – from The Magic Room, a sharply finished events space, to The Ned’s Club upstairs, which features a rooftop terrace across the NYC skyline.

As well as un-reserved entry into one of the most coveted spots in town, members can also expect invites to exclusive parties, live performances and immersive experiences, as well as preferential room rates. The Ned membership also spans across the Atlantic – join the New York destination and you can enjoy the same perks next time you’re over in London, and vice versa.

Sleep
While much of the hotel is strictly reserved for members, the 167 guest rooms welcome even those out of the inner The Ned circle. Each has been carefully imagined to ooze that opulent sense of style that is so emblematic of 1920s New York, while retaining a sense of low-key style.

Vintage artwork, dripping chandeliers and plush velvet furnishings sit alongside natural wood flooring and lush greenery to create individual rooms that are both of a bygone era and distinctively modern. In the bathrooms, guests can indulge in Cowshed toiletries as well as a few treats from Soho Skin.
While each room promises to be the perfect base from which to explore the city that never sleeps, The Ned NoMad’s selection of premium suites really are a cut above. The largest of the lot is the roomy Duplex Terrace Suite which, as well as 1,100 sq ft of indoor space including an oversized bathroom with clawfoot tub and an inviting dining room, features a generous outdoor terrace perfect for entertaining on those balmy New York evenings.

Dine
Guests at The Ned NoMad are utterly spoiled for choice when it comes to eating and drinking – and that’s saying something in New York. Making its Manhattan debut is Soho House favorite, Cecconi’s, which serves up northern Italian fare, including wood-fired pizza and seafood pasta, in a glam setting. The restaurant is open to non-members, but hotel guests and club members are the only fortunate few who can make advance bookings.
The exclusive Ned’s Club is home to a number of drinking and dining spaces (some for hotel guests, other strictly members only), including Ned’s Dining Room, which offers a menu of grilled and flambéed dishes, as well as a stellar wine list.
For a pre-dinner tipple with city views, The Ned’s Club Upstairs is a no-brainer, with a rooftop terrace serving up light bites and irresistible cocktails. Later in the summer will also see the opening of The Little Ned which will serve a compact menu of upscale bar fare, from caviar and steak tartare to burgers and salads, in a less formal setting.

Explore
Found in the heart of Midtown, The Ned NoMad puts guests right in the center of the action. The hotel’s namesake neighborhood is as bustling as they come, with a real upmarket edge that can sometimes slip off in the city’s other touristy destinations. The Ned NoMad is in good company here, with plenty of New York’s other five-star hotels finding a home in the area’s historic 20th-century buildings.
Naturally, where there is a good hotel there are also good restaurants and bars. Guests will be delighted to find that one of the best restaurants in the world, Daniel Humm’s Eleven Madison Park, is just a stone’s throw away, as are Patent Pending – a discreet speakeasy-style bar with unbeatable cocktails – and Fotografiska, which acts as a one-stop-shop for culture and partying.
