The InterContinental Park Lane Reveals Claire Luxton Suite

The British artist has also curated new suites designs at the brand’s New York and Dubai hotels.

By Kim Ayling

InterContinental Hotels has expanded its partnership with celebrated British artist Claire Luxton to reveal a series of individually designed suites at its London, New York and Dubai hotels, fully curated by the artist herself.

First revealed at London’s InterContinental Park Lane, the redesigned suites are intended to showcase the worldwide portfolio of InterContinental’s hotels through the lens of Luxton’s striking style. The experience begins the moment you enter the hotel, with an enormous floral installation waiting for you in the lobby.

Created in partnership with HRH The Queen’s official florist, Moyses Stevens, the vibrant display is both a celebration of the English countryside, as well as a nod to the fact that HRH spent a portion of her childhood on the site where the hotel now stands.

Head up to the seventh floor and the immersive experience continues. The reimagined suite has been carefully curated to capture every single sense. The first thing that hits you as you walk in is the music, courtesy of a bespoke playlist featuring an eclectic mix of songs that inspired Luxton in her creative process.

Next, the distinctive scent of the suite hits you. Nodding to InterContinental’s hotels in the Middle East and India, diffusers have been discretely dotted around the double-story suite, projecting the sweet, woody smell of oud.

When it came to reimagining the actual look of the space, Luxton clearly left no stone unturned. Virtually every surface is covered in colorful floral bouquets, erupting with blooming shades of pink, purple and orange. The furnishings are equally as vibrant with cushion covers taking on the prints of some of Luxton’s most celebrated pieces.

Making the most of the suite’s mezzanine layout is a hanging display of translucent butterflies in every color of the rainbow. Suspended from the double-height ceiling, the installation is framed by the floor-to-ceiling view of London’s skyline beyond.

Head up the stairs to the bedroom and the rich color scheme continues with more bouquets, soft furnishings and artwork. The bespoke lighting featured throughout the Clare Luxton Suite is intensified in the ensuite bathroom, with the entire space submerged in blue, purple and pink tones. A drawn bath is an indulgent add-on to the experience, with guests treated to floral bath fragrances as well as a scattering of boat orchids.

Enhancing the InterContinental Clare Luxton experience is a hamper of goodies inspired by the group’s hotels around the world. For example, the biscotti nods to the soon-to-open Rome property while macarons celebrate its Parisian hotel.

“I’m thrilled to partner with InterContinental Hotels & Resorts again, interpreting the brand’s story of worldliness,” says Luxton. “Global travel inspires my work, and I hope it shines through in every detail of the collaboration, from the foyer florals and the hotel team’s custom scarves to the drawn bath experience and the artworks themselves.

“Each flower and animal within my work for InterContinental reflects a hotel or resort from its past, present or future. In curating the design of these suites and experiences, I sought to explore the delicate equilibrium between humans and nature while celebrating the magic of wanderlust.”

The exclusive in-suite experience is similar in both the InterContinental New York Barclay and Dubai Festival City, with Luxton having added the same level of highly tailored personalization to both. The experience is extended in the two hotels with a selection of Claire Luxton-inspired food and beverage offerings, including a themed afternoon tea.

The Claire Luxton Suite at the InterContinental London Park Lane, New York Barclay and Dubai Festival City is available to book from June 2 through mid-July. London rates from £3,950 (approx $4,940), parklane.intercontinental.com
