The iconic Beaux Arts-style building that houses The Peninsula New York was first built in 1905, and the exterior is a beautiful relic of the early 1900s. Inside, the interiors have been modernly and elegantly restored (the hotel has gone through many lives before it was bought by Hong Kong-based Peninsula Hotels in 1988). There are 23 floors and 235 rooms, each with the Peninsula’s signature creamy-hued neutral colors and sumptuous textures. The design is simple, yet elegant and is always stocked with fresh, fragrant flowers. Throughout the hotel, expect Asian-inspired art and contemporary art (from the likes of Andy Warhol, Keith Haring and Jean-Michel Basquiat) alongside opulent chandeliers and ornate plasterwork. Enjoy contemporary American dining at Clement; drinks with views over all of Manhattan at Salon de Ning rooftop bar and terrace; and the sultry Gotham Lounge. The Peninsula Spa has world-class treatments using Biologique Recherche and La Prairie products; there is also an Asian tea lounge, private relaxation lounges and heat experiences within the changing rooms. Peninsula is known for its wonderful programming, whether you want to go behind the scenes at a Broadway show, cook with a private chef or experience a private tour of MoMA.
