Multi-Million Dollar Indura Beach & Golf Resort to Open in Honduras in 2014

By Chris Boyle

induras resort_The $133m Indura Resort & Spa in Central America, situated along the Caribbean Sea on the northern coastline of Honduras, is set to open in early 2014.

The resort is a landmark project for the country sitting on a 26-mile stretch of Tela Bay and is a welcome addition to the burgeoning Central American tourism industry.

Comprised of 60 junior suite accommodations, a Gary Player designed 18-hole eco-sensitive golf course, managed by Troon, and a wellness sanctuary managed by ESPA, the resort is a new discovery for travelers who are seeking an off-the-beaten path destination along with a dose of light adventure.

Conveniently located one hour’s drive from San Pedro Sula airport, yet feeling a world apart – you’ll experience a lush tropical landscape and beach along with scenic mountain views.  You will be at the very heartbeat of a vast array of flora and fauna, many of which are not found anywhere else in the world on the 1,800 acres (789 hectares) of the resort.

Indura is situated on Tela Bay and is part of a biological corridor, including ancient mangroves, that preserves the natural environment and safeguards migrating animals.  From panthers to porcupines, and from silky, blonde anteaters to the stunning turquoise-browed mot mot bird, the hotel sits on the edge of one of Honduras’ largest national parks.

Tela Bay itself is home to the largest colony of healthy Elkhorn coral in the Caribbean and a rare species of sea urchin.   Nearby Lancetilla is the largest botanical garden in the Americas and the second largest in the world. Indura is ideally nestled between two national parks:  Punta Sal and Punta Izopo, with Pico Bonito Park an hour away by car.

On-site, guests can take advantage of water sports on the wide stretch of beach or dip into the inviting pool that includes a section specially designed for children’s safety.  If more adventure minded, the activities are endless: Play in the waves, snorkel, kayak, hike the trails and explore.  If looking for rest and relaxation, laze on the beach, dip into the pool, or enjoy the spa sanctuary for a totally calming experience.

A variety of food and beverage outlets on property make it convenient for all guests whether on the course or beach to stave off your hunger or quench your thirst.  Indura’s five dining options highlight the culinary traditions of Honduras, pairing indigenous ingredients grown on property along with the local catch of the day. Recipes combine techniques borrowed from the Garifuna – a culture of Amerindian and African descent – and flavors of South America that come together to create an outstanding cuisine.

Indura has the potential to be an important benchmark in Honduras tourism. The client created a winning partnership with EDSA and Kobi Karp Architecture & Interior Design who helped envision this luxurious, new “frontier” destination.

“The impact on Tela is enormous,” said Jose Gutierrez, CEO of DTBT (Desarrolllo Turistico Bahia de Tela). “A project like Indura has the capacity to reactivate the economy of a small community by generating hundreds of jobs of all shapes and colors, functioning as a catalyst for the tourism industry.”

In this effort, Indura has hired young adults from Tela to join the golf training academy to learn about the game and be caddies for the course. Familiar with the wildlife, they can also point out the panther tracks left the night before on the course, or the sound of howler monkeys as they move through the treetops.

Knowledgeable women from the local villages have been cultivating the hotel’s nursery that will serve as landscaping for the entire resort.   To date, the project has generated more than 800 direct jobs for the local community.

Indura is managed by Miami based TRUST Hospitality£.  “We are extremely proud to be in a position to showcase one of the most naturally beautiful destinations in the world,” said Patrick Goddard, COO of Trust Hospitality.

“Latin America has been a focus for TH for almost five years and an important component of our growth strategy. The addition of Indura shows our commitment to that strategy and our belief in the Tela Bay area of Honduras as an emerging destination.”

Located on Tela Bay, Honduras, Indura Beach & Golf Resort is scheduled to open in the first quarter of 2014.  Rates for accommodations begin at US$309.  For hotel reservations and information, please call 305 537 7056.
