It’s always a major event when the legendary German manufacturer Mercedes-Benz unveils a new G-Class. In recent memory, the G-Class has forged its reputation as an off-road behemoth that’s just as capable fording rivers as it is cruising up and down the Gucci and Dior-lined streets of Rodeo Drive. This most recent outing was no different. Hollywood’s elite flocked to the exclusive premiere in Franklin Canyon Park, Los Angeles for the big reveal.
The Mercedes-Benz G 580 with EQ Technology is a vehicle that exemplifies performance and expansive capabilities. Boasting an impressive 579 hp and 859 ft lbs of torque, there’s certainly enough power from this new machine, which in sport mode can do 0-60 in less than five seconds. All this is powered by a 116kWh battery located in the floor of the vehicle. Mercedes-Benz estimates this battery will result in a range of over 230 miles.
Aside from being entirely electric, this new model also comes kitted out with never-before-seen features. G-TURN2 effectively allows drivers to turn the brand-new electric Mercedes-Benz G-Class on the spot – ideal for slotting into those tight parking spaces outside Erewhon. G-STEERING reduces the turning circle when driving off-road and G-ROAR brings a fresh new audio experience to this new modal.
The vehicle is powered by four independent, individually controllable electric motors, which contribute to the car’s innovative drive characteristics.
Undoubtedly the highlight of the LA event was the moment the new G 580 with EQ Technology EDITION ONE emerged from the water to a flurry of light projections and smoke.
“Los Angeles is a place famous for its legends, which is why we chose to reveal our new electric G-Class right here in Beverly Hills. For over four decades, the G-Class has shown its ability to go almost anywhere on the planet, and tonight the tables were turned,” said Bettina Fetzer, vice president of communications and marketing at Mercedes-Benz AG.

Aside from the impressive new technology, this new model continues to embrace the heart of what it means to be a G-Class. The rugged, hardy, boxy silhouette remains while the interior is effectively appointed with the decadent quality and iconic design language customers have come to expect from a Mercedes-Benz G-Class.
Of course, as it is all-electric, there are a few unique extra details. Customers can choose to have a stylish new black panel grille. While the hood has been restyled and raised and there are now air curtains in the rear wheel arch extensions.
“The G-Class is a true legend, and we are thrilled to celebrate the highly anticipated debut of the all-electric model in Los Angeles. The G feels just as much at home here as it does in the great outdoors. Our new electric G-Class can do everything the G we know can do–and then some,” added Michael Schiebe, CEO Mercedes-AMG.
