For hardcore whisky nuts, news of The Macallan’s record-smashing 84 Year Old Time : Space release was the most important release of the past month. For everyone else, the announcement that Beyoncé was breaking out into the world of whisky with the launch of SirDavis, stole the headlines.
Following its announcement on August 20, Beyoncé’s inaugural whisky is now available to shop in select US markets as well as London, Paris and Tokyo. And, never one to orchestrate things at random, Beyoncé has aptly coincided the occasion with her own birthday – September 4th.
Founded in collaboration with Moët Hennessy, SirDavis honors Beyoncé’s great-great-grandfather Davis Hogue – a farmer and moonshiner who produced illegal whiskey during the prohibition era. The thinly ribbed glass bottle references the Art Deco era during which Hogue was alive, while its tall stature was chosen to set it aside from other premium top-shelf bottles.

Inside said elegant bottle, the liquid itself was created in collaboration with master blender Dr Bill Lumsden – one of the most quantifying seals of approval in the world of whisk(e)y. Comprised of 51% rye and 49% malted barley, the American whisky underwent a second maturation in sherry casks. The result is a smooth yet robust spirit, abundant with classic rye spice.
To mark the official launch of Beyoncé’s SirDavis, the brand has released a recipe for its signature cocktail – the aptly named Honey Bee. A warming combination of whisky, lemon and honey, the serve is set to come into its own as we teeter ever-closer toward fall.
