The Big Winners of the New York Michelin Guide 2024

The 2024 Guide sees the NYC's first three star restaurant crowned in 12 years.

By Ellys Woodhouse

The stars have aligned once again over New York, as Michelin cements the city’s place as the culinary capital of the US. More than 400 New York eateries have been included in the 2024 Michelin Guide, meaning just making the list is a triumph. But for a select few, the accolade of a holding Michelin star (or three!) represents the pinnacle of dining excellence.

This year’s guide brought a constellation of new stars to the Big Apple, with 12 local favorites earning their place among the city’s elite. It also marked the first time in 12 years that a New York City restaurant recieved Michelin’s highest accolade. Jungsik joins the ranks of the 13 other three-starred restaurants in the US, and is the first Korean restaurant in the nation to achieve the highest rating.

The eponymous restaurant from chef Jungsik Yim opened in Tribeca in 2011, earning its first star within six months of opening, and its second awarded in 2013. While one inspector acknowledged “Jungsik has always been impressive and special, there was something so meticulous to the meal” – with Michelin specifically recognizing the octopus gochujang aioli dish with: “I am not exaggerating when I say this was easily some of the best octopus I have eaten.”

Other highlights from the Michelin New York Guide 2024 also included Chef’s Table at Brooklyn Fare redeeming its star-studded status, awarded with two stars in the Michelin New York 2024 Guide. It’s somewhat of a redemption story for the quirky Hell’s Kitchen eatery: following the public fallout between the owner and its former head chef that saw Chef’s Table at Brooklyn Fare temporarily close its doors (and lose its former three-star status) in 2023, this marks the ushering in of a new era under chefs Max Natmessnig and Marco Prins.

One White Street, the neighborhood hangout in Tribeca, after earning its first star in Michelin Guide 2023, in this year’s guide welcomed the addition of a Green star to its studded roster. Awarded for its sustainability efforts, chef Austin Johnson told Michelin: “Our partner farm in the Hudson Valley is tasked with supplying our restaurant with as much seasonal produce as possible throughout our four growing seasons and allows us to truly operate a ‘farm-to-table’ restaurant.”
