One of the city’s most exciting summer pastimes is Grand Banks, a floating restaurant in the Hudson River known for its delicious oysters and impressive cocktail and champagne and rosé list. The restaurant is aboard a historic wooden schooner from 1942, Sherman Zwicker, and although it’s always docked, it offers a vastly different experience than a land restaurant and offers an out-East experience in TriBeCa. The views are incredible and the buzzy atmosphere (thanks to the flowing bottles of rosé) makes for the perfect Saturday activity — especially on those steamy New York summer days. Executive chef Kerry Heffernan’s menu focuses on wild-caught and sustainably harvested oysters and seafood, and he places a strong focus on seasonal local produce. Chef Heffernan is also an advisor to nonprofit organizations focusing on seafood sustainability and conservation and has partnered with the Billion Oyster Project which aims to distribute a billion oysters throughout New York Harbor by 2035. The menu features a variety of East Coast oysters from several states. Make reservations in advance; as you can imagine, spots fill up fairly quickly.
