Fall is once again on the horizon, and with the cooler days come a slew of new hotel openings. Among the most exciting is Fifth Avenue Hotel – a transformed historical gem on, you guessed it, New York City’s Fifth Avenue.
Slated for an October opening, the hotel marks a coming together of old and new, encompassing both The Mansion – a late 18th-century landmark that once hosted raucous society parties – and a new 24-story glass tower. Inside, the hotel has been given a stylish overhaul by the celebrated Martin Brudnizki Design Studio (MBDS).
Paying homage to the original building’s glamorous history, MBDS worked to a brief centered around a timeless, trend-defying scheme. In this vein, guests can expect an eclectic collection of art, classic details, and vintage furnishings across the hotel’s 153 guest rooms (many of which have their own private terrace) and social areas.

Among these social spaces is an atmospheric library, finished in the style of a classic Italian villa, and The Terrace, a rare outdoor area that resembles a quintessential English garden. Other design highlights will include Murano glass chandeliers, a grand marble lobby and gilded detailing throughout.
The Fifth Avenue Hotel is also striving to become an NYC culinary hotspot, with restaurant veteran Andrew Carmicelli – of Locanda Verde, The Dutch, Lafayette, Bar Primi, Rec Pier Chop House and Carne Mare – enlisted to run the hotel’s gastronomic offerings. Among them will be the aptly named Signature Restaurant, which will serve up Italian and French-inspired dishes, as well as the intimate Portrait Bar.
Event space will be in plentiful supply too. For intimate occasions, there’s the Wine Vault, while the 2,800-sq-ft Ballroom is fit for grand events on a bigger scale, with original architectural details and a grand blue and gold color palette promising to transport guests to the Gilded Age.
