Marc Newson is widely regarded as one of the world’s influential designers of the modern era. Having designed everything from pairs of Nike sneakers to the very first Apple Watch, Newson has turned his hand to luggage. Collaborating with Louis Vuitton for the third time in his career (his previous work has included a limited-edition backpack and a monogram luggage series), Newson has designed a set of rolling suitcases designed to look like Louis Vuitton’s iconic trunks.
Available in two different sizes (55 liters and 50 liters), the Horizon by Marc Newson for Louis Vuitton line comes in nine different colorways, with a selection of materials as varied as traditional Damier Ebene Canvas and Taiga Leather. The cases feature a four-wheeled base, flat outershell and an extendable cane handle. It also features a 180 degree opening and natural cowhide corners to increase structure and durability.
“I think it’s safe to say that we’re striving to break new ground in terms of developing a product which is one of the lightest on the market, and from a technical perspective is one of the most rigorously designed and engineered,” Newson says. “I’m obsessive about packing everything into a bag of a certain size which is why it was so important for me to design a product that could tick all of those boxes and be the kind of the perfect piece of luggage for a person like me that travels and won’t travel with anything more than is absolutely necessary.”
