Savile Row Tailor Cad & The Dandy to Open New York Store

Opening in October, this New York store sits below Cad & The Dandy’s Bespoke Penthouse on Billionaires Row.

By Toby Louch

In October, British Savile Row tailoring house Cad & The Dandy is set to open its first ready-to-wear store in New York on Billionaire’s Row at 130 West 57th Street. This new store is perfectly placed on some of the hottest real estate in the world right now and directly below Cad & The Dandy’s Bespoke Penthouse, which has been situated on Billionaire’s Row since 2018.

America, particularly New York, has long had a fascination with the Savile Row suit. While US brands like Brooks Brothers played a major role in the invention of ready-to-wear clothing, making suits and formal tailoring available to the masses. Stateside, the name Savile Row continues to be revered as a true marker of quality in the world of tailoring.

There are only two other Savile Row tailors to have made a permanent presence in the US, with only one of those having a standalone ready-to-wear store, so this new opening from Cad & The Dandy marks a big moment in the expansion of Savile Row.

Cad & The Dandy has found success in recent years by delivering everything one would expect from a Savile Row tailor: exceptional quality handmade garments in a house cut that is more contemporary than other tailors on the row. You can expect a Cad & The Dandy suit to have a natural shoulder and a more pronounced waist.

“At Cad & The Dandy, we have become known as a house with a truly defined style, making garments by hand with exceptional skill that are both elegant and easy to wear whether that be bespoke or our ready-to-wear,” said co-owner of Cad & The Dandy, James Sleater. “The opportunity to expand into New York with our second premises in the city is an exciting step for the brand and I hope this becomes one of many new shops in our planned company expansion.”

The New York store will be opening with a few classic Cad & The Dandy touches, like a fully stocked bar, inspired by its flagship store on Savile Row and a private room that presents a curated collection of pieces.

“Our collection is curated to embrace the elegance of classic English style, made by hand and without compromise,” said co-owner of Cad & The Dandy, Ian Meiers.  “We take pride in offering a distinct alternative to the prevailing Italian-influenced designs often found in New York. Our garments epitomize traditional English tailoring with more structure, shape and impeccable attention to detail. This collection is a testament to our commitment to preserving our tailoring heritage while offering a sophisticated and contemporary choice.”

Cad & The Dandy first launched its ready-to-wear collection in 2021, with the idea of bringing its contemporary house style to a wider audience. Sticking to the brand’s principles, these ready-to-wear garments are all handmade.

“The ready-to-wear store will be an excellent complement to our full bespoke experience. For the client that needs something on a shorter timeline, it’s a viable alternative,” said managing director, USA, at Cad & The Dandy, Steve Knorsch. “As well as offering a huge array of visual inspiration with the ever-changing seasonal designs on show. Current bespoke customers will now have the ability to augment their wardrobes with ready-to-wear items such as knitwear, suedes, etc., from the source and not compromise on the quality they are used to.”
