Following the success of its properties in Mexico, Namibia, Morocco and Saudia Arabia, eco-tourism brand Habitas has opened its first hotel in North America.
Located just outside the village of Rhinebeck – and just two hours from New York City – Habitas-on-Hudson will be a new concept for the brand, having taken over a historic neo-baroque manor house rather than its usual low-impact modular structures.
A total of 30 rooms will be spread across the manor house, as well as two adjacent outposts. Each accommodation is serenely decorated, with plenty of neutral tones and rustic earthy finishes. For the top bedroom, opt for one of the suites; located in the Stonehouse, each one has its own outdoor terrace and spacious lounge area.

Positioned as a chic countryside retreat, Habitas-on-Hudson will make the most of its pastoral setting with a host of seasonally focused programming. During summers it’s all about mountain biking, mountain hiking or swimming in the natural pond, while colder months are for the hotel’s various lounges, the dedicated games room and even ice skating.
There are also plenty of wellness amenities, including a barrel sauna, jacuzzi, fitness classes and yoga sessions.
Habitas-on-Hudson’s special programming is also set to include musical performances from a series of rotating arts in residence, and weekly Baja El Sol concerts in the outdoor gathering space.

As with all Habitas properties, special focus has been put on conscious dining. A farm-to-table offering can be enjoyed at the on-site restaurant, Social, with culinary influences taken from Habitas’s international destinations. Meals are served family-style, with outdoor BBQs on offer too.
Next door to Social is the bar, which takes its inspiration from a classic pub and will be serving up specially crafted cocktails and local wines and beers.
“We are excited to open our first HOME in the US in Upstate NY, we are seeing a big shift in people rebalancing their lives post-pandemic and Upstate NY offers the perfect refuge while giving people the proximity to New York City,” says Habitas co-founder and CEO, Oliver Ripley. “Habitas-on-Hudson is a home for a growing generation of people who share similar values and a mindset, focused around human connection, giving back and being close to nature.”
