Fifth Avenue stalwart The Peninsula New York has revealed the completed result of a property-wide, ten-month refurbishment – a project that covered all guest rooms and suites, as well as its celebrated dining spaces.
Led by New York-based firm Bill Rooney Studio, the refurb sought to highlight the building’s past – which dates to 1904 – with a particular focus on the elegant decadence of 1920s New York, while simultaneously bringing in a modern-day standard of luxury.
Guests are first greeted by the refreshed Grand Entrance, which beckons with its oversized chandelier and grand double-height lobby. Beyond, the iconic Palm Court now features a triptych by Mexican-born artist Ricardo Mazal.

Up on the hotel’s rooftop, what was formerly Salon de Ning has re-opened as the Pen Top – a stylish rooftop bar with amazing city views. On the menu are a number of signature cocktails, a curated wine list and light bites. The new operable roof allows for year-round dining come rain or shine, too.
Each of The Peninsula New York’s 219 guest rooms and suites have also been reimagined and now exude the air of a sophisticated Manhattan apartment, with a neutral color palette and updated lighting. The hotel’s three signature suites have also benefited from an upgrade.
Accommodations have also been updated to feature the latest in-room technology, including The Peninsula’s proprietary communication system – namely a touch-screen tablet offering 24-hour concierge access and digital room controls, all in six languages.
