Explora Journeys Launches Chef Invité Series

Chef Thierry Marx will join Explora II for an 11-night excursion in the new year.

By Kim Ayling

In a bid to continue establishing itself as one of the world’s premier experiential cruising companies, Explora Journeys has announced the launch of its Chef Invité Series – a culinary-focused program that invites world-leading chefs to showcase their skills to Explora’s discerning guests.

The series will launch with Thierry Marx of Paris’ Michelin-starred Onor and now-closed two-Michelin-starred Sur Mesure, who will join Explora II from January 24 to February 4, 2025, as it embarks on an 11-night sail around the Caribbean. Attending via special invite from Explora Journeys’ head of culinary, Franck Garanger, while on the ship Marx will host a series of culinary experiences “between Creole culture and sainted shores.”

“Chef Marx and I have known each other for numerous years now, both growing up as the sons of bakers,” said Franck Garanger. “We have honed our craft over countless years and in various locations. I am delighted that we will be reunited on this journey, and have no doubt Thierry will surprise and delight with his culinary excellence.”

Departing from Miami, the excursion will call in at Pointe-à-Pitre, Guadeloupe, where guests will have the opportunity to visit local markets and discover how Marx selects the finest local ingredients and interprets local flavors.

The trip will also visit Antigua for an immersive look at the island’s culinary landscape. This includes a private visit to a herb and vegetable producer, as well as a stop at a fisherman’s dock to learn more about the local specialties.

Throughout the trip, Marx will also host a series of panels, discussions and private dinners, inviting guests to interact with him directly as he shares tales of his career and his inspirations. When not delving into Marx’s culinary know-how, guests can indulge in Explora II’s bounty of luxurious amenities and facilities. Launched in September 2024, the 461-suite ship has five swimming pools, six restaurants, and 12 bars and lounges, as well as as an ocean-inspired spa.
