The Red Sea Development Company
Leading the Way
Developed by The Red Sea Development Company with sustainability at its core, The Red Sea Project spans almost 11,000 square miles on the west coast of Saudi Arabia. It features an archipelago of over 90 islands, serving as a year-round holiday paradise for visitors seeking immersive barefoot luxury experiences.
The Red Sea Project in Saudi Arabia is one of the most ambitious regenerative tourism projects in the world with an archipelago of over 90 pristine islands, 120 miles of idyllic coastline, thriving coral reefs, mountain canyons, dormant volcanoes and ancient historical treasures.
Phase one will welcome its first guests in 2022 when the first hotels, a dedicated international airport, marina, leisure and lifestyle facilities open. A further 12 hotels will open in 2023, providing more than 3,000 rooms. The destination will be completed by 2030, offering 50 hotels and 8,000 rooms across island resorts, mountain retreats and desert hideaways.
Specific initiatives are in place to protect, preserve and enhance the ecosystem. The project will be powered by 100% renewable energy with the largest battery storage facility in the world in place to ensure supply 24/7/365. Other commitments include the use of innovative construction techniques like offsite manufacturing, the use of sustainable materials like green concrete, and a total ban on single-use plastics once operational. The annual number of visitors will be carefully managed to avoid over-tourism, capped at one million annually, with the ultimate goal of delivering a 30% net conservation benefit by 2040.
