Leader of the luxury tequila market Don Julio is once again strengthening its already-strong portfolio with the launch of Alma Miel – the latest tequila in its permanent range.
This newest expression is billed as an “homage to the agave plant that is the heart and soul of tequila,” by the brand and is crafted using a blend of a Blanco tequila distilled with agave honey and a 14-month-aged Añejo tequila.

A final aging of the blended spirit takes place in Crémant du Limoux barrels, sourced from the Limoux region of France – an area known for its champagne-method blanquette and crémant sparkling wines. The resulting liquid is rich and smooth, with sweeter flavors than you might expect of a tequila – honey and caramel lead, with plenty of that signature agave to boot.
A million miles from a nightclub shot (or even a tequila for margaritas or palomas) Alma Miel is intended to simply be poured over ice – with a little orange rind garnish, if you please – and sipped neat. No salt rim around here.

Beautiful bottling comes as standard in the Don Julio world and the Alma Miel tequila is no exception. Like the ever-so-famous silhouette of the Don Julio 1942, and the Respado and Primavera releases, this latest bottle is elegantly elongated but instead of the dark brown hue, the glass is perfectly clear and adorned simply with light blue and gold text. The bottle is presented in a sleek baby-blue presentation box, inspired by the colors of Blue Weber Agave.
“Our love for the craft is what keeps Tequila Don Julio at the forefront of luxury tequila and a force when it comes to sharing some of the most exceptional expressions with the world,” says Christina Choi, senior vice president of tequila at Diageo North America.

“With the launch of Tequila Don Julio Alma Miel, we hope to inspire tequila lovers who are exploring new innovations as we pay tribute to the spirit of Mexico through the agave plant.”
This latest expression is launched alongside a new Don Julio campaign with Mexican singer, Christopher Nodal. Nodal will star in a new creative video, and lead a new national dinner series promoted by the brand which is intended to fuse Mexico’s musical and culinary traditions.
