Six Senses Unveil First Residences in this Overlooked Italian Region

First look at the Six Senses Antognolla Residences, the first branded residences in Italy's Green Heart.

By Ellys Woodhouse

The “Green Heart of Italy”, better known as the region of Umbria, may be best known for its Medieval towns, rolling hills, rich cultural heritage and (this is Italy after all) delicious cuisine, but the region has generally flown under the radar compared to its neighbors Tuscany and Emilia-Romagna. The country’s best-kept secret is unlikely to stay that way for much longer, as the opening of the new Six Senses Antognolla is set to add a little bit of luxury amongst Umbria’s backdrop of olive groves, vineyards and cypress-topped hills.

As well as being the Six Senses’ second location in the country, following the opening of Six Senses Rome in 2023, the Antognolla resort will also feature a limited number of high-end residences, the first branded residences in Umbria. The Six Senses Residences are set to offer all the unique amenities and atmosphere of a resort life community while retaining the privacy and personal touches of a beautifully appointed private villa or apartment.

In addition to the Six Senses Residences and suites, of course, this being the Six Senses, there is a huge wellness center, set to total just short of 32,300 sq-ft. The Six Senses Antognolla is built upon and on the estate of a 12th-century castle, which will be transformed into a 21st-century hospitality destination by architecture designer Woods Bagot.

In addition to the 17 branded residences, the resort is set to have a total of 71 hotel keys. The hotel interiors are by Japanese Studio SPIN, which brought that contemporary and serene aesthetic that Six Senses is known for to this history pocket of medieval Italy.

At the center of the resort is the operating Antognolla 18-hole championship golf course. Designed by American designer, Robert Trent Jones Jr, the course has already been twice named ‘Italy’s Best Golf Course’ by the World Golf Awards. Phase One is also set to include a cookery school, an organic farm, a pro golf shop and clubhouse, alongside the already established La Boiola, the traditionally rustic Italian restaurant

Carrying the Six Senses name also means that in addition to the world-leading wellness offerings, luxury and sustainability are equally thought through, as the site is run on a water recycling system that supplies over 80% of the estate’s water.

“Six Senses Residences Antognolla is the first branded residential resort in Umbria, offering a collection of turnkey residences around this 1,300-acre estate,” said Kerry McClinton-King, development consultant and founder at Sorores, which worked with Six Senses on developing the site.
