The much-anticipated Mandarin Oriental Palace, Luzern is set to welcome its first guests in September following the extensive renovation of a historic hotel on the shores of Switzerland’s Lake Lucerne.
Built in 1904 by one of Europe’s leading hoteliers, the iconic belle epoque landmark boasts stunning views of the Swiss Alps and is located a stone’s throw from the medieval old town.
Local architects Iwan Bühler Architekten and London-based designers Jestico + Whiles were brought in for the refurbishment, taking the utmost care to meticulously preserve the building’s rich history, while breathing new life into the property.
Mandarin Oriental Palace, Luzern features 136 elegant guest rooms, including 48 spacious suites. The most exclusive abodes are the two Panoramic Rooftop Terrace Suites complete with spacious private balconies – the perfect spot for soaking up the mountain views.

Jestico + Whiles took inspiration from the surrounding landscape to create contemporary light-filled interiors in shades of blue and cream, with floor-to-ceiling windows revealing sweeping vistas of Lake Lucerne. As you would expect from a Mandarin Oriental property, the rooms feature all the modern amenities you can think of right down to a Dyson hairdryer and Bose sound system.

Perhaps most exciting of all is the dining offering. Mandarin Oriental Palace, Luzern will feature four distinct restaurants and bars helmed by Michelin star experienced executive chef Gilad Peled. At MOzern Bar & Brasserie, diners will be able to enjoy Asian culinary delights and signature cocktails in a beautiful marble dining room at the heart of the property.
For something a bit more relaxed, guests can head to Quai 10 – an al fresco Mediterranean eatery overlooking the lake – for pizza from the wood oven. Joining these dining concepts in 2023 is Colonnade, which will serve modern French Haute cuisine, and Mizumi – an intimate six-seat restaurant where guests will be able to sample traditional Japanese omakase cuisine.
The new hotel will also feature a luxurious spa complete with a sauna, steam room, experience showers and a state-of-the-art fitness center.
