On the secluded Hawaiian island of Lānaʻi, Sensei Lānaʻi, a Four Seasons Resort, is offering its guests a new way to explore the island with the launch of its Hiking Retreat packages.
The new Hiking Retreat package will launch at Sensei’s two properties, first at Sensei Lānaʻi, a Four Seasons Resort, before debuting at Sensei Porcupine Creek in Greater Palm Springs later this year, with plans for recurring on an annual basis.
The inaugural retreat at Sensei Lānaʻi will last for five nights from April 29 to May 4. Aimed at hiking enthusiasts of all abilities, the program includes three easy-to-moderate hikes, taking guests through Lānaʻi’s lush landscapes and deep-diving into the Hawaiian island’s history and culture.
Planned routes include the Hiʻi Trail, including a stop to visit the heiau (an ancient Hawaiian temple) for a planting ceremony of the Ti leaf, a native plant currently being restored to the area; and the Puʻupehe Trails, a scenic hike that traces the footsteps of ancient Hawaiians. Before each hike, guests will undergo a warmup session led by a Sensei exercise physiologist.
Open to couples, solo travelers and small travel groups alike, the new program is as much about the collaborative experience of being on the retreat as it is about the improvement of an individual. As Alexandra Walterspiel, Sensei president and chief operating officer, explains: “While our programs so far have centered on the individual, these hiking retreats are structured in a cohort model, drawing together like-minded individuals and fostering social connections that are key to one’s well-being, all while being immersed in the island’s cultural riches and natural beauty.”
As expected with a Sensei Retreat, each stay is highly customized to align the guest’s intentions with Sensei’s philosophy of sustainable living powered by technology and backed by data. Along with the scenic hikes and five nights of luxury accommodation at Sensei Lānaʻi, guests will also get full access to the luxury resort’s range of wellness offerings available at its private 1,000 sq-ft spa hale (the Hawaiian word for ‘home’), including four 60-minute treatments, three wellness classes, including deep relaxation, aquatic recovery and a gong sound bath, and a one-on-one Sensei-guided session of choice, including fitness, nutrition, yoga, meditation, sleep or mindfulness.
Founded by Larry Ellison, technology pioneer and co-founder of Oracle, and Dr David Agus, a world-leading physician and scientist, Sensei Lānaʻi, A Four Seasons Resort, was the first location for the brand. Since then, Sensei Porcupine Creek opened in November 2022 in the Santa Rosa mountains in Greater Palm Springs. While the details for its expected Hiking Retreat are yet to be announced, it is expected to take groups on an immersion through the Coachella Valley, enjoying outdoor activities paired with restorative spa treatments.
Pricing for the five-night program begins at $9,815 (single) and $15,380 (double) for the five-night program.
