For a tequila titan like Patrón, each new release is a big moment. The announcement of Patrón Cristalino is no different. When it comes to tequila, most of those who enjoy this delicious Mexican spirit have heard of blanco, reposado and añejo. Cristalino, although far less popular than the other three varieties, has been gaining popularity in recent years, particularly in the US where it is viewed as a fairly new and unique concept. Patrón Cristalino is attempting to tap into this burgeoning market.
Essentially an añejo (aged) tequila that has then been filtered to remove the naturally occurring color that tequilas develop from their time in the barrel. Patrón Cristalino utilizes only three ingredients, 100% Weber Blue Agave, water and yeast. This creates a tequila that brings both the intricacy and depth of flavor that comes from barrel aging with the added clarity of a crystal-clear tequila.
“As a brand with a rich heritage of redefining standards, we’re especially proud that Patrón Tequila will once again elevate the expectations for cristalino tequila, combining centuries-old Mexican craftsmanship with a modern, forward-thinking approach,” said Samantha Newby, Patrón Tequila global vice president, innovation and sustainability. “Innovation is seen in every part of Patrón Cristalino, from its smooth taste to its unique bottle design, which features a beautiful piña pattern. This new-to-world packaging was inspired by the natural beauty of Mexico and the finest 100% Weber Blue Agave – a core ingredient. We’re committed to showcasing the very best of this exciting category and what’s possible when tradition meets innovation.”

To create Cristalino, Patrón utilizes both roller mill and Tahona methods in order to extract the agave, which is then fermented in small batches in Jalisco, Mexico. The tequila is then matured in different casks for 12 through 15 months, resulting in a sweeter profile that brings subtle woody notes. What follows is perhaps the most important stage for a bottle of Cristalino. Master distiller David Rodriguez and his team then filter the aged tequila using wood charcoal, resulting in a smooth and sweet tequila with a clear appearance.
“At Patrón, we remain committed to our time-honored methods, blending the best of traditional and modern techniques for the development of Patrón Cristalino,” said Rodriguez. “What truly sets us and this cristalino apart is our dedication to the integrity of our process and delivering a depth of flavor. The result is an additive-free cristalino with naturally sweet notes of butterscotch and vanilla, lightly cooked agave and a smooth finish.”
This new tequila also comes in a brand new bottle for Patrón. Highlighting the crystal clear nature of the liquid, a transparent glass bottle is used, decorated with a piña pattern and featuring a metal neck label and black wooden cork, a reference to the charcoal filtration.
Patrón Cristalino is available now at US retailers priced at $79.
