Perrier-Jouët Reveals $100,000 Edition of its 2008 Vintage

The collaboration with French embroiderer Atelier Montex is limited to just 10 bottles.

By Ellys Woodhouse

It’s Paris Haute Couture week, but our eyes are not on the extravagant gowns or suits. Rather, it’s the latest intricate collaboration from heritage champagne house Maison Perrier-Jouët that has captured our attention.

Working with the prestigious French embroiderer Atelier Montex – a resident at Le 19M, where Chanel brought together all its Métiers d’Art under one roof – the brand presents Ode à la Nature – Libellule, a beautifully adorned edition of its Perrier-Jouët Belle Époque 2008.

Part of its Objets Extraordinaires Collection, a majestic Jeroboam bottle of its Belle Époque 2008 has been delicately embellished by a network of metalwork and embroidery, taking the form of a pair of dragonfly wings. The structure required a full year of research and development to perfect the complex structure, with the entire process requiring some 75 hours of craftsmanship.

The 24-carat gold exoskeleton is first hand-painted in the signature green color of both nature and Maison Perrier-Jouët, before being delicately hand-embroidered by an Atelier Montex artisan. Adorned with shimmering glass beads, it is the work of exceptional precision and artistry, transforming the bottle with the detailed decore of insects and flowers.

The intricate structure works to highlight the lovely delicacy of the exceptional vintage inside. A blend of 50% chardonnay, 45% pinot and 5% pinot meunier, Perrier-Jouët Belle Époque 2008 is distinguished by its aromas of orange blossom and white peaches, which evolve into a beautiful mineral finish.

Maison Perrier-Jouët revealed the bottle this week in Paris, holding a tasting session at its namesake suite at the iconic Hôtel Lutetia. The luxurious space, with its glimpses of the Effiel Tower and enchanting views over Paris, was transformed with historic Art Nouveau pieces taken from the Maison Belle Epoque, Perrier-Jouët’s Unesco World Heritage property in Épernay.

It is the second in a series of artist collaborations for the heritage champagne house, where its Anémone edition in 2022 similarly drew on Maison Perrier-Jouët’s enduring relationship with art and nature. For Ode à la Nature, Atelier Montex has drawn inspiration from Maison Perrier-Jouët’s historic ties with the Art Nouveau movement – in 1902, Emile Gallé, one of the pioneers of Art Nouveau, created the Japanese anemone motif that would become the emblem of the House and today is seen dressing the bottles of Perrier-Jouët Belle Epoque vintage champagnes.

The Ode à la Nature – Libellule is limited to just 10 pieces and, as the brand notes, is made specifically for ‘lovers of objets d’art and exceptional wines’. It is available on request to Maison Perrier-Jouët at the price of €100,000 ($108,700).

Those privileged clients who acquire the Ode à la Nature embroidered creation will subsequently receive an experience at Maison Belle Epoque and three jeroboams of three different vintages: Perrier-Jouët Belle Epoque 2008; Perrier-Jouët Belle Epoque 1999, an extravagant and seductive cuvée with notes of honey and nougat; and Perrier-Jouët Belle Époque 2012, a delightfully fresh sensation with luscious notes of pear and lemon.
