Another year, another plethora of exciting hotel openings. Following an understandably stagnant few years for the travel world, 2022 came back better than ever with a bursting collection of new properties – Aman New York, Sommerro and Four Seasons Tamarindo are all worthy of special mention – but now, we look ahead to the most anticipated new hotels of 2023.
As always, we’ve scoured high and low to curate a selection of only the best destinations. And there’s plenty to be excited about as we head into a new year, from remote countryside retreats to slick city sanctuaries.
If just one trend has emerged in the most exciting hotel openings for 2023, it’s that travelers are more concerned than ever with engaging with the places they visit in a more meaningful way. Each of the properties listed below not only offers a sumptuous pillow on which guests can rest a weary head but also evokes the real spirit of its surroundings to meaningful effect.

Casa Chablé, Sian Ka’an, Mexico
Set on a private islet in the Sian Ka’an biosphere, just south of Tulum, the new Casa Chablé is set to deliver barefoot luxury in its purest form, with pristine landscapes and remote seclusion as standard. The hotel will have just 10 accommodations (five beachfront bungalows and five suites in the main villa), as well as a thatched-roof restaurant, an oceanfront wellness center, gym, outdoor yoga and meditation space, and a rooftop lounge and bar. For the ultimate in group getaways, Casa Chablé is also set to offer full-property buyouts. Gather your nearest and dearest ASAP.

The Homestead, South Africa
Eagle-eyed readers might recognize that The Homestead was featured in our guide to the most exciting hotel openings of 2022. However, flooding in the region put the lodge’s opening back, with a new launch date of summer 2023. The Homestead will sit inside South Africa’s Nambiti Private Game Reserve, which is known as one of the best places in the world to see the Big Five. The lodge will offer just 12 suites, each of which has been carefully designed to follow strict eco-conscious principles. As well as twice-daily game drives, guests can experience photography classes, stargazing and camping expeditions, or even just indulge in The Homestead’s luxurious amenities.
SIRO One Za’abeel, Dubai, UAE
Set to begin welcoming guests from late 2023, SIRO One Za’abeel is the first property from Kerzner’s newest hotel group, SIRO. The fitness-focused destination will offer expert guidance and coaching, and state-of-the-art facilities with a sprawling health club forming the core of the first hotel. Tailored health programs developed by specialists in fitness, mental health, nutrition and sleep will be created for every guest, each of which is designed to help reach mental and physical peak, with a focus on five main pillars: fitness, nutrition, sleep, recovery and mindfulness.

The BoTree, London, UK
Located at the point where Marylebone meets Mayfair in the heart of London’s West End, The BoTree is set to become one of the city’s hottest addresses. The hotel will have 199 guestrooms and suites (including a glam presidential suite), as well as two restaurants, one of which looks over the city skyline; numerous bars; a fitness center and a cinema room. Vibrant colors and bold features are already set to be the signatures of the property, with Amsterdam-based firm Concrete responsible for the design. The BoTree hotel will open under Preferred Hotels’ Legend Collection, firmly cementing it as one to watch for 2023.
ULUM Moab, Utah, USA
As the first property from Under Canvas’s new sister brand, all eyes will be on ULUM Moab when it opens in spring 2023. Like its elder sibling, ULUM will be all about low-impact, design-forward luxury with a series of all-suite tented accommodations nestled within beautiful natural surroundings. Its inaugural property will be located just moments away from Utah’s famous Looking Glass Arch rock formation and will offer a series of immersive activities and excursions, from stargazing to hiking. Expect pared-back yet indulgent suites, extensive wellness programming and jaw-dropping scenery.
The Inn at Mattei’s Tavern, California, USA
A new Auberge hotel is always exciting news, and The Inn at Mattei’s Tavern is no exception. Slated to begin welcoming guests from February 2023, the resort is hoping to become a landmark destination in the Santa Barbara area and reignite its long-held status in Central Coast lore. With just 67 guest rooms and cottages, The Inn at Mattei’s Tavern will be wonderfully boutique and will boast a chic yet simple farmhouse interior vibe. Amenities will include an open-air restaurant, outdoor pool and a serene spa.

Rosewood Munich, Germany
Rosewood is continuing its impressive flurry of new hotels with the opening of its first property in Germany in 2023. Rosewood Munich will be located across two landmark buildings – the old headquarters of the State Bank of Bavaria and a former aristocratic residence – putting it in the heart of the city’s historic center. In typical Rosewood style, the 132 guestrooms and suites will reflect the property’s grand exterior with classically inspired décor laced with plenty of contemporary touches. A full-service spa will feature six treatment rooms as well as a pool and a gym, while the two distinct dining areas will invite guests to indulge in gourmet delights.
Atlantis the Royal, Dubai, UAE
Making a statement in Dubai is no mean feat, with the City of Gold home to some of the world’s most glamorous hotels, resorts and restaurants. However, if anyone can do it, it’s Atlantis. Joining its sister property, Atlantis, The Palm, Atlantis The Royal will be spread across six interconnecting towers, with a 295-ft Skypool running the entire length. An astronomic total of 795 rooms will be spread across 43 stories, with 17 restaurants and bars to choose from. We crunched the number for you: this is going to be a massive hotel. There will also be a suitably lavish Nobu beach club, a waterpark and a fire-and-water fountain. Brace yourselves.
Peninsula Istanbul, Turkey
Situated on a prime spot on the picturesque Bosphorus river, Peninsula Istanbul is set to be the latest of the city’s uber-luxe new hotels when it opens in February 2023. The property will boast a total of 177 accommodations across four waterfront buildings, each of which will be decked out with bespoke furnishings and original art. Taking the title of top suite will be the Peninsula Suite, with its own gym, rooftop pool and hammam. Back in the main hotel, guests can explore sprawling private gardens, a rooftop restaurant and an indulgent spa and wellness center.

Four Seasons Hotel Suzhou, China
Covering 22 acres on a private island in the middle of Jinji Lake, Four Seasons Hotel Suzhou promises to live up to the lofty standard set by the luxury hotel group, and then some. Details remain limited for now, but we do know that the new hotel will have over 200 rooms, a spa, a gym and a premier Chinese restaurant with no less than seven private dining rooms. Catering for groups of all sizes, the new Four Seasons Hotel will also boast a series of oversized private villas, as well as a dedicated kids’ club and even a doggy daycare center.
Ngorongoro Lodge, Tanzania
While Ngorongoro Lodge itself is not a new hotel, the property has recently undergone a significant refurbishment and will reopen under the Meliá Hotels International name in 2023. Set within Tanzania’s Ngorongoro, a protected conservation area with the world’s largest concentration of The Big Five, sustainability has been at the heart of the refurb with a heavy focus on protecting and promoting local flora and fauna. The hotel is also set to generate much of its own energy on-site and will have strict waste and energy management protocols in place. Accommodations will be spread across 52 rooms and suites, each of which will feature mesmerizing views across the crater.

Mandarin Oriental Mayfair, London, UK
Since it opened way back in 2000, Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park has been a leading figure in London’s ever-impressive luxury hotel landscape. Over 20 years later and the brand still remains fresh, with plans to open its second property in the city next year. Set to open in spring on the famed Hanover Square, Mandarin Oriental Mayfair will be far more boutique than its elder sibling with 50 guestrooms and an additional 78 private residences, all with a chic design courtesy of Studio Indigo. The hotel will also be home to the first UK restaurant by award-winning chef, Akira Back.
Six Senses Rome, Italy
When it opens in early 2023, Six Senses Rome will take the title of the group’s first Italian property and the latest in a recent rush of Six Senses openings. Located a stone’s throw away from the Pantheon in a historic palazzo, the new hotel will put guests in the heart of the action. There will be 96 guestrooms in total, as well as two eateries, a signature spa and a stylish rooftop terrace. Like all Six Senses properties, the new Rome hotel will be a beacon of sustainability, with an eco-conscious design imagined by revered architect Patricia Urquiola, who puts natural light and breezy open spaces at the forefront of her work.
